New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The National Hockey League on Wednesday issued a two-game suspension to Tampa Bay Lightning forward Richard Panik.
Panik was given the punishment for delivering a questionable hit near the center-ice boards against Capitals defenseman Karl Alzner in the second period of an eventual 6-5 Washington shootout victory.
Panik was given a major for boarding and the Caps used the subsequent advantage to erase a two-goal deficit.
He will forfeit $7,589.74 in salary, which automatically goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
