Leon leads suspended Colombia Championship

Bogota, Colombia (SportsNetwork.com) - Hugo Leon carded a 5-under 66 on Thursday and stood atop the leaderboard when the first round of the Colombia Championship was suspended due to inclement weather.

Leon, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour Canada, is searching for his first Web.com Tour title.

Steve LeBrun, Kyle Stough and Carlos Ortiz posted 4-under 67s and were joined in second place with Alexandre Rocha, who was 4-under par through nine holes.

Billy Mayfair, a former Tour Championship winner on the PGA Tour, opened with a 3-under 68. He shares sixth place with Alex Cejka, Andrew D. Putnam, Philip Pettitt, Jr. and Zack Fischer. Blayne Barber is also minus-3 through seven holes on the Fundadores Course at Bogota Country Club.

Play was called for the day at 4:30 p.m. ET after one-third of inch fell in less than two hours.

Leon stumbled to a bogey on the third, but he bounced right back with a birdie on the par-4 fourth. He moved into red figures with a birdie on the par-4 sixth.

After a pair of pars, Leon converted back-to-back birdie chances at nine and 10 to move to minus-3.

Leon rolled in birdie efforts on the 14th and 18th to grab the lead.

"It was a really clean round of golf today. I was down the middle. I put the ball in the right spots on the greens, which means leaving yourself uphill putts," stated Leon. "I also played the par-3s really clean and that's hard to do on this course."

LeBrun had five birdies in a 7-hole span on the front nine, but mixed in a double-bogey on No. 6. He started the back nine with five consecutive pars before tripping to a bogey on the 15th. LeBrun birdied the final two holes to gain a share of second.

Stough had four birdies and two bogeys on the front nine, then had three birdied and a bogey around the turn.

"I don't really stop playing. I'm not much of an off-season guy. I'm always playing when I'm back home so there's not a lot of rust at this point," admitted Stough. "I would like to get off to a good start, make a couple cuts and have some good finishes to set up the rest of the year."

Ortiz posted three birdies in a 4-hole span from the 14th. He ran off eight straight pars from the 18th before making birdie on the par-5 eighth.

NOTES: The first round will resume on Friday morning at 7 a.m. ET, while the second round is slated to get underway at 9:15 a.m. ... Jesper Parnevik's tour debut lasted nine holes before he withdrew with a back injury.
