LeBron James says he would support a 2-2-1-1-1 Finals format, if the game schedule was tweaked

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Miami's LeBron James is in favor of the NBA Finals potentially returning to a 2-2-1-1-1 format. But if that happens, he believes scheduling changes should follow.

The NBA's four-time MVP says "it wouldn't make any sense" for the Finals to have a Game 5 in one city on a Sunday, Game 6 in another on Tuesday and Game 7 back at the original site on a Thursday.

The league plays Finals games on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in the 2-3-2 system that has been in place since 1985.

James says "it can't be every other day if they go to that format," noting it could lead to one game in Miami one day, then another in Los Angeles two days later.

Otherwise, he says the idea is "great."
