Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Peter Holland scored in the seventh round of the shootout to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
After Jonathan Bernier had stopped Erik Karlsson, Holland flew down the ice and lifted a soft forehand past Andrew Hammond for the win.
Joffrey Lupul and James van Riemsdyk scored and Bernier turned aside 43 shots for the Maple Leafs, who had lost their previous two.
"I think it all goes back to the motivation and wanting to play the game the right way," Toronto interim coach Peter Horachek said.
Mark Stone had a goal and an assist and Karlsson also scored for the Senators, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Hammond made 36 stops in the loss.
Ottawa moved to 93 points on the season and sits two points out of a playoff spot with three games to play.
The Maple Leafs scored 3:10 into the game as Eric Brewer sent a pass from the left boards to the front, where Lupul tucked it in for his 10th of the year.
"Didn't have a very good first period and were good from that point on," Ottawa coach Dave Cameron said.
Ottawa tied the game on the power play at 7:15 of the second as Stone's shot from the left circle was stopped, but Karlsson knocked in the rebound from the right side for his 21st of the season.
Toronto once again grabbed the lead with 7:18 to play in the second as Holland skated down the right wing and passed the puck to the slot, where van Riemsdyk one-timed it home.
The Senators, though, knotted the game up at 2-2 just 69 seconds into the third on the power play as Stone's one-timer from the slot found the back of the net.
