Police have detained the man who they believe is responsible for a brutal beating of a New York Mets fan in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium after last year's Game 1 of the NLDS between the Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Authorities announced Thursday that they have arrested 27-year-old Michael Rae Papayans, who allegedly punched and knocked out a 50-year-old Mets fan following the Dodgers' 3-1 Game 1 loss to the Mets on Oct. 9, 2015.

The victim's head hit the ground after he was knocked out, causing him to sustain brain injuries, the New York Post reports.

Papayans' mother, who reportedly kicked the Mets fan while he was on the ground, has also been arrested in connection with the assault.

Papayans, 27, has been charged with felony assault and could serve up to seven years in prison if convicted, according to multiple reports.

Authorities said that Papayans was also arrested in January alongside friend Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys for reportedly getting into a brawl at a Florida bar after the two were refused service.

Papayans will be arraigned on March 11 for his felony assault charge related to the Dodger Stadium parking lot assault.
