Katowice, Poland – Top seeds Petra Kvitova and Roberta Vinci were a pair of easy quarterfinal winners Friday at the inaugural Katowice Open.
The former Wimbledon champion Kvitova drilled Croat Petra Martic 6-3, 6-2 in 69 minutes, while the Italian veteran Vinci vaulted past helpless Czech wild card Karolina Pliskova 6-1, 6-0 in 67 minutes on the indoor surface at Spodek.
The Czech left-hander and 2013 Dubai champion Kvitova will face Romanian qualifier Alexandra Cadantu, while Vinci will meet German Annika Beck in Saturday's semifinals. Cadantu fought back to beat Israeli lucky loser Shahar Peer 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in 2 hours, 7 minutes, while Beck topped Italian qualifier Maria Elena Camerin 7-6 (7-1), 6-0 on Day 5.
This week's champion will pocket $40,000.
