Kings snag Sekera from Hurricanes

Los Angeles, CA ( - The Los Angeles Kings made a move to bolster their blueline days before the league's trade deadline, acquiring defenseman Andrej Sekera from the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday.

The Kings dealt a conditional first-round draft pick and defensive prospect Roland McKeown to the Hurricanes.

If the Kings make the playoffs, the pick will be in this year's draft. If not, it will be a 2016 draft pick.

The defending champions are currently struggling to stay afloat in the Western Conference playoff race and had yet to properly replace suspended defenseman Slava Voynov.

Los Angeles currently sits third in the Pacific Division but seventh in the conference with 70 points, just one ahead of eighth-seeded Minnesota.

Sekera, 28, totaled two goals and 17 assists over 57 games for Carolina this season and is slated to be an unrestricted free agent in July. He has totaled 30 goals and 155 points over 470 contests since making his NHL debut for the Sabres during the 2006-07 season.
