Dover, DE – Brad Keselowski and his No. 2 Penske Racing team could be facing penalties from NASCAR later this week after his Ford failed post-race inspection on Sunday at Dover International Speedway.
The front end of Keselowski's car was found to be too low during inspection. The defending Sprint Cup Series champion finished fifth in the 400-mile race. Tony Stewart scored his first victory of the season after passing Juan Pablo Montoya for the lead with just three laps remaining.
"We just didn't have the speed needed to go win the race, but we had the speed we needed to have a solid day," Keselowski said after posting his first top- five finish in the series since March 17 at Bristol (third). "It is cool to see Tony win. He did a great job driving that thing, and it was a good race."
Several key members of Keselowski's team, including crew chief Paul Wolfe, were back at the racetrack this weekend after serving their suspensions for two points-paying races due to illegal parts found on his car prior to the start of the April 13 event at Texas. Car chief Jerry Kelley, team engineer Brian Wilson and team manager Travis Geisler were suspended as well. NASCAR had penalized each member with a six-race suspension, but National Stock Car Racing Chief Appellate Officer John Middlebrook reduced it to two after Penske made its final appeal.
Keselowski received a loss of 25 points as part of the team's penalties for the Texas violations. He is currently eighth in the standings, as he is 98 points behind leader Jimmie Johnson.
Keselowski won the Sprint Cup race at Dover last September, which was the third race in the 2012 Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. He has not won a race in the series since then.
