Doha, Qatar (SportsNetwork.com) - German Angelique Kerber and Romanian Simona Halep will meet in the final at the $2.44 million Qatar Open tennis event after both won semifinal matches Saturday.
The sixth-seeded Kerber bested former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic 6-1, 7-6 (8-6), avenging a loss to the fifth-seeded Serbian in Brisbane earlier this season.
Kerber will be appearing in her second final of 2014. She lost to Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova in Sydney to drop her record in title matches to 3-6.
The seventh-seeded Halep, meanwhile, ousted second-seeded Pole Agnieszka Radwanska 7-5, 6-2 on the hardcourts at Khalifa International Tennis Complex.
Radwanska fell to 0-4 in Doha semifinal matches.
Halep will be aiming for a seventh title in her 10th career final.
Sunday's meeting between Kerber and Halep will be their first at the WTA Tour level.
