WHAT'S AT STAKE

Both teams have had a week off to prepare for the Sunflower Showdown. The Wildcats, who beat then-No. 6 Oklahoma their last time out, have won three straight in the series. Kansas has lost its last three after a fourth-quarter collapse at Northern Illinois on Sept. 22.

KEY MATCHUP

Kansas coach Charlie Weis against Kansas State coach Bill Snyder. The new coach of the Jayhawks wasn't shy in his praise of Snyder, who took over a program in worse shape than Kansas more than two decades ago and turned it into a perennial winner. When asked to compare the two teams, Weis said, "Start with the head coach. That might be their biggest advantage."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Kansas: QB Dayne Crist remains the starter despite a miserable start to his final season of college football. After transferring from Notre Dame, the senior has completed less than 50 percent of his passes for 763 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Kansas State: DT Adam Davis could make life miserable for Crist, a traditional drop-back passer. The second-year starter, a former transfer from Hutchinson Community College, leads the Wildcats with three sacks. Kansas State already has 10 sacks on the season.
