Daegu, South Korea – Russia's Olga Kaniskina captured her kilometer race walk, the only event scheduled on Wednesday at the 2011 track and field world championships.
Kaniskina, also the 2008 Olympic champion in Beijing, finished in a time of one hour, 29 minutes and 42 seconds, beating China's Liu Hong by 18 seconds. Russian Anisya Kirdyapkina was third, 31 seconds off the winning pace.
In addition to her Olympic title, Kaniskina also claimed the world title in 2009 and 2010.
Thursday's schedule includes finals for the women's 1,500 meters and the 400- meter hurdles for both men and women.
