London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Harry Kane scored a goal in each half to lead Tottenham to a 2-1 win at QPR on Saturday, allowing Spurs to close to within three points of a Champions League place.

Kane headed his side in front in the 34th minute before doubling his tally in the 68th.

Sandro scored his first league goal of the season for QPR in the 75th, but the hosts were unable to manage an equalizer, keeping the club in the relegation places and three points from safety.

It took a little while for the match to get going, but Spurs made the most of a free kick in the 34th minute to seize the advantage.

Andros Townsend served a teasing ball to the front of goal and Kane beat goalkeeper Robert Green to it, sending a glancing header into the back of the net.

The goal came after QPR's Charlie Austin struck the crossbar with a left- footed attempt, while Tottenham's Christian Eriksen was also denied by the woodwork early in the second half.

Eriksen had another great chance a few minutes later, but he was denied by a last-ditch block from Austin, who was the only thing standing between Eriksen and an empty net.

But the visitors managed to double their lead in the 68th when Ryan Mason chipped a through ball in behind the QPR defense, allowing Kane to beat the offsides trap and round Green before tucking the ball into the open net.

Sandro fired home a shot from the edge of the penalty area with 15 minutes still to play, but the hosts failed to muster a second goal and slumped to their seventh defeat in eight league games.
