NEW YORK (Reuters) - Ubaldo Jimenez became the first pitcher in Major League Baseball to reach nine wins for the season on Wednesday when the Colorado Rockies beat the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 7-3 at Coors Field.

The hard-throwing Dominican right-hander held the D-Backs scoreless over eight innings, yielding six hits as he raised his record to 9-1 and lowered his MLB-best earned run average to a miserly 0.88.

The Rockies (24-22) supported Jimenez with home runs from outfielders Seth Smith and Carlos Gonzalez, and a two-run triple from Brad Hawpe.
