Jerricho Cotchery is one of the few veteran receivers on the Carolina Panthers. He's 33 currently and competing for a job with quite a few young, talented receivers. Apparently, though, Cotchery is feeling no stress, because he knows he can help the Panthers in a big way, both on and off the field.
As David Newton of ESPN explains, Cotchery knows he can make plays and be a consistent target for quarterback Cam Newton. On top of that, he knows that he can help the young receivers on the roster, which he's apparently done plenty of.
"I know I can help this team out a lot. That's what I came here for, to help this team win a championship. That's what I look forward to doing." Cotchery told ESPN.
"But in the meantime, you want to make sure you're helping the guys behind you, not withholding any advice or anything that can help them be better."
Cotchery's the definition of a "team player," which is great news for young receivers like Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess and Corey Brown. Even head coach Ron Rivera raved about his willingness to help the team.
"He's taken a lot of these young guys under his wing and he's explained how things need to be done and how to do things. That's what you need from a veteran guy, and he's taken that role." Rivera said of Cotchery.
Cotchery may be one of a few talented receivers for Carolina in 2015, but it's safe to say that his spot on the roster is more than safe this season. Most of all, don't be surprised to see Cotchery get quite a bit of in-game action as well.
