Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry are two of the top young wide receivers in the game today. Incredibly, they both went to LSU and were selected in the 2014 NFL Draft ... 51 picks apart.
Beckham has gotten most of the attention since coming into the league, but Landry hasn't lagged far behind. Of course, he hasn't made a catch that broke the Internet like Beckham, but consistency and reliability are what make Landry great.
The two will square off on Monday night as the New York Giants visit the Miami Dolphins, and they're planning something special for the pre-game festivities.
"We're thinking about it, we're thinking about it. We'll get together earlier that day before pregame and we'll put something together," Landry said via Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post.
Since going pro, Landry and Beckham have remained close -- like brothers, Landry says.
"It's your brother, it's a bond that goes way beyond the game," Landry said. "... we talk every day no matter what. We FaceTime every day, we text; me, him, Jeremy Hill, we are all just part of a group text. We talk literally almost every day and I don't think that it'll get to a point where he doesn't hear from me. When he lands here I'm going to go get him from the hotel and take him to dinner. It'll be good. It'll be fun."
Highlight catches and stat-stuffing games are what put Beckham on the map, and Landry knows just how great he is. It seems like every week Beckham makes outstanding catches, so much so that he and Landry grade each other on their grabs.
"Now that we kind of make those catches on the regular and especially with how he's been doing lately, it's kind of like 'Oh, that one wasn't as good as that one and that one wasn't as good as that one and that one was a little bit smoother,'" Landry said. "We kind of give each other a little crap about it, but at the same time it's never a dull moment with acknowledging that one of us made a play."
Monday night's showdown should be fun to watch, but it's the pre-game show that might take over the Internet. Both wideouts have the ability to make highlight-reel grabs at any moment, and they'll probably put it on display next week.
