Czech Republic and AC Milan defender Marek Jankulovski announced his retirement on Monday after struggling to overcome a knee ligament injury.

Jankulovski returned to Milan from Czech side Banik last summer after battling a knee injury which kept him on the sidelines for months.

But his return lasted just seven minutes before he sustained another knee injury in October which has kept him out since.

The 34-year-old won the Champions League with Milan in 2007 and spent time with Napoli and Udinese in Serie A before joining the Rossoneri.

Jankulovski also earned 78 caps and scored 11 goals for the Czech Republic during his international career before walking away in 2009.
