WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Humpty Hitchens scored 17 points and James Madison overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat William & Mary 84-79 on Saturday night and win its seventh straight game.
The Dukes (13-3, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association) scored 14 of the game's last 16 points in the final 3:29.
James Madison trailed 54-44 with 16:42 left. The Dukes got within a point twice, finally pulling even when Hitchens hit one of his five 3-pointers with 2:47 remaining to make it 78-78.
The teams were again tied at 79 with 1:31 to go, then Denzel Bowles' layup gave James Madison an 81-79 lead.
Devon Moore added a jumper for 83-79. After the Tribe missed two 3-point attempts, Bowles made 1 of 2 foul shots with 5 seconds left to send William & Mary (4-11, 0-4) to its sixth straight loss.
Bowles finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Marcus Kitts led the Tribe with 16 points.
