Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL for an illegal check.
Wisniewski received a minor penalty for a check to the head of Minnesota's Cal Clutterbuck during Friday's preseason game against the Wild.
The length of the suspension will be determined after a hearing and review by the NHL's Department of Player Safety, which is headed by former NHL star Brendan Shanahan.
Wisniewski will be entering his first season with Columbus after signing a six-year contract in July. His rights were acquired in a deal with Montreal this summer.
