Andreas Seppi and Milos Raonic were Friday's opening singles winners in the best-of-five 2013 Davis Cup quarterfinal between Italy and Canada in Vancouver.

The first bout of the day saw the Italian Seppi battle back from two sets down to beat Vasek Pospisil 5-7, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, while the nightcap saw Raonic cruise past Fabio Fognini 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to even the match for Canada.

Saturday's doubles has a Canadian duo of Pospisil and veteran doubles great Daniel Nestor taking on an Italian tandem of Daniele Bracciali and Paolo Lorenzi, while Sunday's reverse singles pit Raonic versus Seppi and the world No. 31 Fognini against the 140th-ranked Pospisil.

The Italians are captained by Corrado Barazzutti, while team Canada is led by Martin Laurendeau. This is the first-ever Davis Cup meeting between the two nations.

The Canada-Italy winner will meet the Serbia-USA victor in the semifinals in September.
