New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro will undergo surgery to repair a sports hernia, the team announced on Saturday.
The procedure will sideline DiPietro for 10 weeks.
DiPietro has been sidelined since December 3, first with a groin strain and then with what is classified as a sports hernia and knee swelling. He has a 3-2-3 mark with a 3.73 GAA in eight games this season.
