Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians activated infielder Carlos Santana from the paternity list on Sunday.
Santana was able to be present for the birth of his daughter on Thursday, and returns to his club which has split the first two of a three-game series at Safeco Field. The six-year veteran is hitting only .221 in 42 games this year but leads the American League with 37 walks.
To make room on the roster, the Tribe designated outfielder Jerry Sands for assignment. The 27-year-old hit .375 over his 10 appearances with Cleveland this season, belting a homer in Saturday's game against the Mariners, and batted .257 with four homers and 14 RBI in 21 games at Triple-A Columbus.
