The Horizon League has hired former NCAA vice president Julie Roe Lach as its new deputy commissioner.

Lach was presiding over the enforcement division when an NCAA internal investigation determined evidence had been improperly collected during an investigation into the University of Miami. The embarrassing scandal cost the widely respected Lach her job.

She has been running her own consulting business for the past 14 months. Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone calls Lach a "perfect fit at the right time."

With the Horizon League, Lach's responsibilities will include supervising regular-season and championship competition, governance, student-athlete well-being and corporate sponsorships.

Lach begins her new job Aug. 4.
