Honda hoping to turn around early season struggles, make Indianapolis 500 a 2-car race

INDIANAPOLIS – Honda has been chasing Chevrolet all season. Now the gap between the two IndyCar engine manufacturers may be closing.

After two days of Indianapolis 500 practice, the Hondas look more competitive on the Brickyard's 2.5-mile oval than they did on the 2.439-mile, 14-turn road course -- or at any other venue this season.

Chevy swept the top 10 spots in Friday's qualifying for the Grand Prix of Indianapolis and took eight of the top 10 places in Saturday's race.

On Monday, after switching to the new oval aero kits, Honda driver Marco Andretti was fourth on the speed chart in a rain-shortened practice. On Tuesday, Honda took three of the top 10 spots though Helio Castroneves of Team Penske, a Chevy team, had the fastest lap at 227.514 mph.
