Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala spending ways by landing former national team manager Guus Hiddink as head coach on Friday.
Hiddink, 65, brings a wealth of experience to the Russian side after managing some of the biggest clubs in the world. The Dutchmen has previously managed Real Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, in addition to a brief stint as caretaker at Chelsea.
"We discussed Anzhi for quite some time at the end of last year so now I took the decision quickly," Hiddink said in a statement on the club website. "I'm happy that I got this chance - to work not only in a football club but to work with friends who invited me here.
"I know of the ambitions of the shareholder, the club and the fans - the whole world knows about this now and I will try to do everything so that the team's performances correspond to those ambitions."
Hiddink's history with the Russian national team was largely viewed as a success. He guided the country to an appearance in Euro 2008 at the expense of England and helped the Russians reach the semifinals where they lost to eventual champions Spain.
The well-traveled manager has also been at the helm of the Dutch, South Korean, Australian, and Turkish national teams.
