Hibernian goes top with defeat of Dundee United

Hibernian claimed a 2-1 win over Dundee United at Easter Road on Sunday to move to the top of the Scottish Premier League table.

Leigh Griffiths and Eoin Doyle scored in the 19th and 51st minutes, respectively, to power the home side to 24 points on the season, good enough for top spot in the table after Celtic was held to a 1-1 draw by St. Johnstone on Sunday.

Gary Mackay-Steven produced the lone goal for Dundee United, but it was not enough to spark a comeback. The club sits eighth in Scotland's top flight with 16 points.

Celtic looked as if it would cruise back into its first-place position as the Hoops rode Anthony Watt's strike to a one-goal advantage, but Nigel Hasselbaink scored 13 minutes from time to deny the reigning champions that chance.

Neil Lennon's side drops to second place with 22 points, three points better than St. Johnstone.
