MIAMI (Reuters) - Dwyane Wade left the Miami Heat's pre-season game on Tuesday with a strained hamstring and will be re-evaluated in a week, casting a cloud over LeBron James's playing debut with the team.
The All-Star guard lasted a little over three minutes into the Heat's opener against the Detroit Pistons before limping off the court for treatment.
Wade, who receive courtside treatment briefly on his right hamstring before moving to the locker room, did not say when he would return to the Heat lineup.
"I'll be as patient as I need to be. In another week we'll see where it's at," Wade, told reporters after the Heat cruised to a 105-89 win.
Wade, who limped off the court with a towel draped over his right shoulder, said after the game he was still a little sore. He finished with two points in just over three minutes.
The Heat open their regular season October 26 against the Boston Celtics.
"We hope it is not serious. It is almost day-to-day but we have to be careful," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters.
The 28-year-old Wade re-signed with the Heat during the off-season and the team caused a sensation by bringing in James and fellow All-Star Chris Bosh to play with him in one of the most ambitious pieces of squad building the league has seen.
