Atlanta, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Atlanta Hawks traded 2014 first-round selection Adreian Payne to the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday in exchange for a future first-round draft choice.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the pick is expected to be for the 2017 draft.
Payne, the 15th overall choice in last year's draft, has seen minimal playing time as a rookie on the Eastern Conference-leading Hawks. The 6-foot-10 forward has been on the court for just 19 minutes over three NBA games, having spent the majority of the season between Fort Wayne and Austin in the D- League.
By trading Payne, the Hawks are able to clear a roster spot to possibly add a veteran for the stretch run. Reports last week stated that Atlanta had made contact with the representatives for two-time NBA champion and current free Ray Allen.
