The Hawaii men's basketball team is losing a freshman guard to military service.
Orel Lev will not return in the fall in order to serve a three-year military obligation in his native Israel, the school said Wednesday.
Lev joined the team in January, serving as a member of the scout team, but was expected to play as a freshman this upcoming season.
Military service is compulsory in Israel. Lev said he asked for an exemption but was not granted one.
