Hassan Martin scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Rhode Island to a 72-56 win over UMass-Lowell on Sunday.
Rhode Island (2-0) used an 8-1 burst early in the first half to build a lead it wouldn't lose, taking a 29-23 advantage into intermission, then continued to pull away.
Martin was 8 of 10 from the field and also had two blocks, leading the Rams in scoring for the second straight game. Jared Terrell had 12 points and Jarelle Reischel had 10 for the Rams, who shot 63.8 percent from the field and held a 37-18 rebounding advantage.
UMass-Lowell (0-2) narrowed the gap to 23-18 on a Jahad Thomas layup with 5:15 to go in the first half but it was as close as the Riverhawks would get.
Thomas finished with 17 points for the Riverhawks, who have lost 10 straight to Rhode Island.
