American Jamie Hampton took out second-seeded Roberta Vinci in Friday's quarterfinal action at the rain- plagued Brussels Open, a final clay-court French Open tune-up.

In a match that was supposed to be played on Thursday, Hampton, a 23-year-old from Alabama, dropped the first set on Friday before fighting back for a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 decision against the veteran Italian Vinci at Royal Primerose Tennis Club.

Another quarterfinal result saw an American exit via upset, as Estonian Kaia Kanepi drove out seventh-seeded Varvara Lepchenko 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4).

Saturday's semifinals will pit eighth-seeded Peng Shuai of China against Swiss Romina Oprandi and Hampton versus Kanepi. Peng was the runner-up in Brussels two years ago.

The final is also scheduled to be played on Saturday, weather permitting, as inclement weather has been a factor all week.

The 2013 Brussels titlist will earn $120,000.
