Cole Hamels earned a place in baseball lore by throwing a no-hitter against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. Four days later, he became a somewhat unwitting entry in the record books.

Hamels was the headliner in an eight-player blockbuster deal that sent him from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night.

The 2008 World Series MVP became the first player in history - within the same season - to toss a no-hitter and be traded prior to his next start.

Bert Blyleven is the only other player to change teams following a no-hitter in his previous start. He capped his 1977 season with a masterpiece for the Rangers before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the offseason.

Hamels also became part of a small club, joining Cliff Chambers (Pirates, 1951) and Edwin Jackson (Arizona Diamondbacks, 2010) as the only pitchers to be traded during the same season in which they threw a no-hitter.

For what it's worth, Blyleven finished his career with 287 victories. Chambers wound up 48-53 while Jackson, who was designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs earlier this month, owns an 86-105 mark.
