Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin announced Wednesday that right-hander Sonny Gray will start Game 5 of the American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers.
The A's were originally scheduled to go with Game 1 starter Bartolo Colon in Game 5 on Thursday. Colon yielded three runs on 10 hits over six innings in a 3-2 Oakland loss in Game 1.
Gray pitched eight shutout innings in Game 2 last Saturday. He received a no- decision in Oakland's 1-0 win over the Tigers, striking out nine batters, walking two and allowing only four hits.
Gray posted a 5-3 record and 2.67 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) during the regular season.
