New York Yankees center fielder Curtis Granderson has been named the American League Player of the Month for August.

Granderson hit .286 with 10 homers and 29 RBI in 28 games during the month. He also scored a major league-best 28 times to pick up his first monthly honor.

Other players considered for the award were Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, Boston designated hitter David Ortiz, Detroit catcher Alex Avila and first baseman Miguel Cabrera, and Angels outfielder Peter Bourjos.
