Cartagena, Colombia (SportsNetwork.com) - Australians Oliver Goss and Adam Crawford fired 8-under 64s on Thursday and they share the lead with round one of the Cartagena de Indias at Karibana Championship suspended due to darkness.
Goss has missed the cut in his last two starts, one on the PGA Tour and one on the Web.com Tour. Crawford has missed the cut in his two Web.com Tour starts in 2015.
Miguel Angel Carballo, a two-time winner on the Web.com Tour, opened with a 6- under 66 at TPC Cartagena at Karibana. He shares third place with Joel Dahmen and Rob Oppenheim, both former PGA Tour Canada winners, as well as Jhared Hack.
Marc Turnesa, Kevin Tway, Patton Kizzire, Andrew Landry, Ben Kohles and Drew Scott are tied for seventh place at 5-under 67.
The leaders took advantage of the calmer winds in the morning as 20 of the top-21 players on the leaderboard were in the morning wave.
Todd Baek's 4-under 68 was the best score in the afternoon wave.
Goss opened with a birdie at the 10th and followed that with four pars in a row. He jumped to 4-under with three birdies in a 4-hole span from the 15th.
Around the turn, Goss dropped in back-to-back birdies at the second and third. He parred four straight holes from the fourth to remain at minus-6. He jumped into a share of the lead with an eagle on the par-5 eighth.
"Playing well early in the morning is going to be important. I haven't played in wind like this in a long time. It's something we get used to in Australia," Goss said. "It's tougher for the players who haven't played in the wind before. On the downwind holes, I like to be quite aggressive and try to hit it a little harder. I want to get it down there as far as I can. Having a 9-iron to a par-5 is quite advantageous."
Crawford stumbled to a 3-putt bogey at the first, but atoned for that mistake with a birdie on the par-3 third. After four straight pars, he made eagle at the eighth to move to minus-2.
The Australian jumped up the leaderboard as he birdied three of four holes from the 10th. Crawford climbed to 6-under with a birdie at 17. He made eagle at the par-5 18th to grab a share of the lead.
"We play in the wind pretty much every day. It might not be as strong as this, but it's windy every day. You just get used to playing in it," said Crawford, who splits his time in Brisbane, Australia and Dallas, Texas. "I kind of found something on the range (on Wednesday) and today went really well."
NOTES: Both leaders are winless on the Web.com Tour ... The two players that failed to complete their first rounds will return to the course at 7:30 a.m. ET on Friday, while round two will begin as scheduled at 6:40 a.m. ... Hunter Haas had a hole-in-one on the par-3 third.
