Wigan announced Friday that midfielder Jordi Gomez has signed a two-year contract extension to keep the Spaniard at the club until 2014.
The 26-year-old's current deal was set to expire in the summer, but the extension will see the former Barcelona youth team player stick with the English side despite its battle against relegation. Wigan sits second from bottom in the Premier League with eight games remaining.
Gomez joined the Latics in 2009 and has managed six goals in 56 appearances.
