Gibson scores 31 points as Sacred Heart builds big lead and holds off Quinnipiac 80-74

Shane Gibson shot 9 of 18 from the field and 9 of 9 from the free-throw line to score 31 points, leading Sacred Heart to an 80-74 victory over Quinnipiac in a Northeast Conference game on Saturday.

Steve Glowiac had 21 points, hitting 6 of 7 from the field, and Louis Montes chipped in 12 points for the Pioneers (5-10, 3-1), who hold a 40-22 edge in series.

Dave Johnson scored 17 points, and Ike Azotam, Jamee Jackson and Zaid Hearst had 10 each for the Bobcats (5-10, 1-3).

Leading 29-26 at halftime, Sacred Heart started the second half on a 20-8 run to blow open the game and held a 61-41 advantage with 7:33 left.

Sacred Heart shot 45.5 percent (25 of 55) from the field versus Quinnipiac's 39.7 percent (27 of 68) and was 22 of 28 from the foul line to the Bobcats' 14 of 27.
