San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending August 11.

Belt picked up a hit in all seven games last week. He finished with a .440 (11-for-25) batting average and led the National League in total bases (20) and runs scored (8). He also hit three doubles and two home runs while collecting five RBI.

Others considered for the award included St. Louis' Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday, Los Angeles' Carl Crawford and Zack Greinke, Chicago's Donnie Murphy, Atlanta's Justin Upton, Washington's Jayson Werth and Stephen Strasburg, and New York's Matt Harvey.
