Georgia State add transfer QB

Former Ohio University quarterback Ronnie Bell is transferring to Georgia State, Panthers head coach Bill Curry announced Friday.

Bell, a former prep standout at Sandy Creek High School in Fayetteville, Ga., is expected to enroll in Georgia State's summer session in June. He was a redshirt at Ohio this past season.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Bell was a two-time, first-team all-state quarterback while leading Sandy Creek to back-to-back state titles in 2009 (Class AAAA) and 2010 (Class AAA).

"We are just really pleased to add Ronnie Bell to our team," Curry said. "The best thing I can say about him is that he was 29-1 as a starter and won back- to-back state titles in Georgia high school football. And the one game they lost was his first one."

Bell will join a roster that has four returning quarterback, including redshirt freshman Ben McLane, who emerged from spring practice as the starter. Junior Kelton Hill started the final five games in Georgia State's 3-8 season last year.

The Panthers will play in CAA Football this fall in their third and final season in the FCS, rising to the FBS and the Sun Belt Conference in 2013.
