Georgia Southern safety Derek Heyden out indefinitely

Derek Heyden, a senior safety for top-ranked life threatening neck injury suffered against Western Carolina this past Saturday, the university announced Monday.

One of the defensive leaders for the Eagles, Heyden is second on the team with tackles (19). He also is the leader with a pair of interceptions.

Heyden is under a physician's care at a hospital and will be released Monday or Tuesday, the university said.

Georgia Southern (3-0) will visit Elon (3-1) for a Southern Conference game on Saturday.
