Hester became the first out athlete to win a gold medal in these Games with a first-ever Dressage team gold for Great Britain. Hester and his teammates, Laura Bechtolsheimer and Charlotte Dujardin, beat perennial powerhouse Germany to snatch the gold medal.

Alexandra Lacrabere, France, Handball
The French lost to Montenegro, 23-22, in the quarterfinals. Montenegro scored the game-winning shot with one second remaining in regulation. Lacrabere scored 3 goals on 8 shots.

Brazil lost to an inferior Norwegian team, 21-19, giving up two unanswered goals in the final five minutes of the game. Pessoa did not play in the game.
