The Texas Rangers have some decision-making to do regarding their 25-man roster before their ALDS showdown with the Toronto Blue Jays begins on Thursday.
In preparation for the final roster cuts, the team made some initial decisions regarding a few players in the fringes of consideration. Power-hitting prospect Joey Gallo was one of those players, and he was sent to the Instructional League in Arizona in order to stay 'fresh' in case the team needs him for a later postseason round.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported that the team also sent reliever Luke Jackson, outfielders Leonys Martin and Ryan Strausborger and infielder Ed Lucas to Arizona as well.
Three other players sent elsewhere include outfielder Ryan Rua (to the Arizona Fall League) and pitchers Tanner Scheppers (who cut his finger during the team's division clinch celebrations and is still in Arlington) and Spencer Patton (who has returned home).
As for the final roster decisions that the club must announce by Thursday morning, GM Jon Daniels is quoted by Jeff Wilson of the Star-Telegram as saying, "We haven't had a chance to sit down and talk to any of the players that are involved, so it's a little sensitive. We don't want to release any of that until we've had a chance to talk to those guys first."
One player that will definitely be on the roster is Josh Hamilton - and the team is expecting to rely on him as an offensive weapon against the powerful Blue Jays.
