French Open champion Francesca Schiavone needed just 58 minutes to advance to the second round of the U.S. Open, beating Ayumi Morita 6-1, 6-0 on Monday.
The sixth-seeded Italian had 28 winners to move on to play Maria Elena Camerin or Sophie Ferguson.
Schiavone had been just 3-6 since winning at Roland Garros.
Morita, of Japan, is 0-7 against top-10 opponents and 1-10 at Grand Slams.
