Free agent WR Collie signs with 49ers
Santa Clara, CA – The San Francisco 49ers inked free agent wideout Austin Collie to a one-year deal among a slew of roster moves.
The deal was struck after the club brought the 27-year-old in for the second of two workouts on Friday. Collie had originally worked out for the Super Bowl runners-up back in June.
Collie was beset by injury problems last year. He suffered a concussion in a preseason contest and then was lost for the season thanks to a torn patellar tendon in Week 3 against Jacksonville.
Over his four-year NFL career, all with Indianapolis, the Colts' fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft has totaled 173 catches for 1,845 yards and 16 touchdowns over 42 appearances.
The Niners also signed wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, while waiving center Sherman Carter and punter Colton Schmidt.
Hawkins spent five seasons with the Titans, racking up 71 receptions for 771 yards and one touchdown, but was released by Tennessee on May 1. He was signed by the Patriots eight days later, but released on July 31.
Both Carter and Schmidt were signed as undrafted free agents, the former on May 7 and the latter on July 15.
