Chattanooga has hired Jim Foster as its head coach less than a month before he enters the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

The university announced Foster's hiring on Thursday. The former St. Joseph's, Vanderbilt and Ohio State coach has a 783-307 record and ranks 11th in NCAA history in career wins.

Chattanooga athletic director David Blackburn says in a university release that "I had no idea that we would be able to hire a Hall of Famer like Jim Foster. His career speaks for itself."

Foster has coached 26 NCAA tournament teams and reached a Final Four with Vanderbilt in 1993. He was fired by Ohio State after going 18-13 this year. He replaces Wes Moore, who left for North Carolina State.
