Fordham fires Masella after 1-10 season

Fordham announced it had fired head football coach Tom Masella on Saturday shortly after the Rams concluded their worst season since 1999.

The Rams went 1-10 after suffering their ninth straight loss, 41-21 to Holy Cross. Masella had a 27-40 record in six seasons with the Patriot League school.

"We are grateful for Tom's hard work at Fordham over the past six years, but we feel it's time to make a change," Fordham athletic director Frank McLaughlin said. "Tom is a determined coach who was able to help lead Fordham into the football scholarship era. We wish him all the best in the future."

Fordham's one-win season was its worst since finishing 0-11 in 1999. The Rams are the only Patriot school to offer athletic scholarships in football, but lost to each of the other six schools in the league.

Fordham announced a national search for a replacement will begin immediately.
