PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers will ice the same lineup that turned in a resounding Game 1 victory when the puck drops on Game 2 against the Montreal Canadiens Tuesday night (7 p.m. ET, VERSUS, CBC, RDS).
That mean Jeff Carter and Ian Laperriere will once again be bystanders as the Flyers look to grab a 2-0 series lead before the series shifts to Montreal's Bell Centre for Games 3 and 4.
Laperriere, out of the lineup since April 23 with a brain contusion, skated for the fifth-straight day Tuesday, but has been ruled out of the lineup by Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren. There's an outside chance the veteran forward will return at some point in this series.
Carter, who skated for 15 minutes on his own at the Flyers' practice facility Monday, was not on the ice Tuesday. The chances of Carter returning to the lineup against Montreal are slim after he had a plate inserted on the shaft of the metatarsal of the second toe on his right foot 25 days ago.
As for Game 2, Flyers coach Peter Laviolette doesn't anticipate a letdown despite his team's 6-goal victory in the series opener.
"Coaches worry about everything, to be honest with you," Laviolette said. "But right now my push is, you're not in the middle of the season, you're not at the beginning of the playoffs, you're one of four teams that are left. It should be entirely about us and how we play and our goal and what we're looking to accomplish every day. I want to believe that that will be strong enough motivating power right there (to be ready Tuesday).
"We know Montreal is going to play a good game (Tuesday), so I'm always more concerned about my team and how they're going to play."
The players are also expecting a more desperate Canadiens club. Montreal gained a split on the road in their previous two series -- notching a 3-2 victory against Washington in Game 1 of their conference quarterfinal round matchup and a 3-1 decision against Pittsburgh in Game 2 of their conference semifinal.
"That's what we're focused on -- going up 2-0 and getting the lead," Flyers forward Scott Hartnell said. "They've done a good job in the first two series of coming out with the split and we realize that they're going to come with a big effort. We have to match that, and use the crowd at Wachovia Center to our advantage, again."
