GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Preston Tucker drove in five runs, Alex Panteliodis pitched six shutout innings and Florida beat rival Miami 11-4 to win the Gainesville Regional on Sunday.
The Gators eliminated the Hurricanes from the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year and will host Georgia Tech or Mississippi State in a super regional next weekend.
Florida (48-16) also extended its recent dominance in the in-state series, beating Miami (38-23) for the eighth straight time and 11th in the last 12 games.
The latest wasn't even close.
Tucker had a three-run homer in the first inning and a two-run double in the third, helping the Gators build an 11-0 lead at home. That was plenty of cushion for Panteliodis (6-2), who didn't allow a runner past second base until giving up a solo home run with one out in the seventh.
