Flashback: Alex Rodriguez becomes third member of 40-40 club

What do Jose Canseco, Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez have in common?
Well, in terms of on-field performance, anyway? They are three of the four members of the ultra-exclusive 40-40 club (Alfonso Soriano is the other).
On Sept. 19, 1998, Alex Rodriguez -- then in his third full season with the Seattle Mariners -- became the third member of the 40-40 club when he connected for homer No. 40 off the Angels' Jack McDowell in the first inning. He finished the season with 42 homers and 46 steals, despite not stealing a base in his final 19 games.
Interestingly, Rodriguez never again stole even 30 bases in a season after 1998. His high after that was 28 steals in 2004.
Rodriguez, now in his 21st major-league season, ranks fourth on the all-time list with 686 homers. He doesn't even rank in the top 100 in stolen bases, however, with 325.
