La Quinta, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Zack Fischer closed with an 8-under 64, including birdies on the final two holes, on Tuesday and rallied to win the Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament.
Fischer, who carded a 3-over 75 in round one, ended the 6-round marathon at 31-under-par 401. He will be a rookie on the Web.com Tour in 2014 and is fully exempt for the full season.
Scott Pinckney, who led after the fourth and fifth rounds, carded a 4-under 68 on Tuesday and ended alone in second place at minus-29.
Steve Saunders and Sung Joon Park both posted 5-under 67s and were joined in third place at 25-under 407 by Tony Finau (68).
Bronson Burgoon (66), Max Homa (66) and Jimmy Gunn (71) shared sixth place at minus-23.
Thirty of the top 31 players on the leaderboard played the Jack Nicklaus Course at PGA West in the final round. The other player competed on the TPC Stadium Course at PGA West. The field played three rounds on each course for the tournament.
The players that finished second through 10th will be exempt through the first two reshuffles (12 events) next year, while those that ended between 11th and tied for 42nd will be exempt through the first reshuffle (eight events).
Fischer, 24, was two behind Pinckney at the start of the round, and Pinckney birdied the first to make it a 3-shot margin. Both players birdied the fourth and fifth.
Fischer continued to roll as he made it four in a row with birdies at six and seven. Pinckney birdied the ninth, but Fischer answered at No. 10. The pair both birdied the 11th as Pinckney kept his 1-shot lead.
Pinckney bogeyed the 12th, but came right back with a birdie at the 13th. He tripped to another bogey on the 14th to drop back into a share of the lead at minus-29.
After the duo matched pars at 15 and 16, Fischer closed the tournament in style as he birdied the final two holes to win by two.
"It was incredible. I don't know how I won. I think Scott and I knew that we might be separating ourselves from the group and I felt like we were head-to- head going into 17," Fischer said. "I really didn't have a ton of nerves today. There were more nerves, honestly, on that last (25-foot) putt. I just didn't want to blow it 10 feet past the hole or leave it 10 feet short. I don't know how it went in. I was just trying to get it close."
NOTES: Fischer played four PGA Tour events in 2013, and missed the cut in three of them. He has never played a Web.com Tour event ... Pinckney and Finau were the only two players with six sub-70 rounds for the week ... The three amateurs that played this week -- Zac Blair, Michael Kim and Anthony Paolucci -- have the option of joining the tour and becoming a member at any point of the 2014 season, but they have to turn professional first.
