World No. 4 David Ferrer has decided to skip next week's Monte Carlo Masters event due to a thigh injury.
"Unfortunately I will not be able to be in Monte Carlo because of physical problems," the Spanish star said on his Twitter feed on Thursday.
Monte Carlo kicks off the European clay-court season and Ferrer was the runner-up two years ago.
The 31-year-old Ferrer, who led the ATP in match wins and titles last year, has already appeared in four finals this season, including titles in Auckland and Buenos Aires. He was a runner-up at the Miami Masters last month.
